The Eta Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity began in Dallas, Texas during the Fall of 2000. This was the dream and vision of Brother Anthony Whitaker. Brother Whitaker pledged Spring 1989 at Theta Theta Chapter of East Texas State University. Brother Whitaker had a vision of providing Omega Service in the Southern Region of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Compelled to assemble brothers of like minds, Brother Whitaker began to spread his desire and ideas of a new and innovative body of brothers to several Omega men that lived in that area and were actively involved in Omega. The first gatherings of brothers took place at Brown and Haynes Barbeque Restaurant, which was owned and operated by Brother Nathaniel Haynes. This became a local hangout for many Omega men and was used as a platform to show many Omega men the need for a Graduate Chapter in the Southern Sector of Dallas.
Brother Haynes was a well-known brother that pledged in Spring 1981 at Paul Quinn College and welcomed the brothers on many Friday evenings after his restaurant closed for fellowship. As the numbers of brothers grew, the formation of this body of brothers began to take place and a vision for the organization began to form. This body unofficially began meeting to determine the steps necessary to obtain a Graduate Chapter in Omega. The first official meeting was held at Lancaster High School, around May of 2001, where Brother Gregory Williams was an Assistant Football and Head Boys Track Coach. Brother Williams pledged Spring 1986 at East Texas State University and allowed the brotherhood to meet on Sunday evening in the athletic locker room.
The first order of business was to select an organization name and officers. The Organization became known as Brothers of Omega and the President was Brother Robert Jackson, Sr. The brothers met every week and continued to fellowship on Fridays and realized that the first goals of the organization would be to help reclaim all brothers that were improperly initiated into the fraternity to help them become viable Omega Men. The second goal became their motto: 1. Service. 2. Refer back to number 1. The objective was to be the hardest working and viable body of brothers that Omega had seen, for which they could not deny the creation of a new chapter.
In August of 2001, the brothers met with current District Representative, Brother Jerry Rutherford. This allowed Brother Rutherford the chance to meet the men of this body. During this time Brother Rutherford was amazed at the amount of service that the brothers had done. The brothers had participated in Diabetes Walks and created events such as Community Fun and Family Day. Brother Rutherford had one question. If this body receives approval of a Charter, where will this Body be in 5 years? Each brother answered, “Working for Omega!”
The Chapter was officially charted on November 12, 2001, by the recommendation of Brother Jerry Rutherford to the Supreme Council of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and an official charter ceremony took place in Desoto, Texas. The Chapter was charted in Ellis County of Red Oak, Texas which is 38 miles south of downtown Dallas. The First Chapter Basileus was Brother Joseph E. Davis, Jr. Brother Davis pledged Spring 1989 at the Alpha Zeta chapter from Arkansas State University. During this time, the Charter line of 4 Brothers known as the Genesis Line crossed. This made the chapter unique because it included brothers with unique backgrounds that pledged on the undergraduate level and the graduate level. These brothers were from all walks of life, encompassing professions such as Teachers and Coaches, Firemen and Police Officers, Doctors, Lawyers and Entrepreneurs. The thing that these brothers all had in common was: 1. They All Love Omega. 2. They wanted to provide service.
Since being installed as Chapter #910, Eta Lambda Lambda has become known for many social and service events from: Men's Health Programs and the Charles R. Drew Blood Drive, to their signature event, Jazz on the Q-Note. Their Scholarship Fundraiser has helped several individuals pay for college.
